Spotlight on Actress... Jordana DePaula
Jordana DePaula: An actress with big dreams... and the talent to achieve them.
ordana DePaula is not just another pretty face. The talented and highly intelligent actress appears among two Hollywood-Heavyweights (pun intended) in Pain & Gain; starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - and she holds her own.
Yes, we'll be the first to admit that Jordana's beauty-pageant looks and swimsuit model figure are quite pleasing to the eye; but we'll also quickly say that there's more to her than mere looks... way more.
In an industry where outward beauty is deified and real talent is sometimes hard to come by, it is refreshing to see - and speak to - someone who actually posesses both beauty and talent. That, along with a really charming personality.
We caught up with Jordana the other day. Read what she has to say and why we like her so much...
ACTOR POINT: Jordana Thank you! We want our readers to know more about you and what you're doing. You are originally from Brazil but now you lived in Florida since the age of 7, Yes? How is life different in Brazil than it is in Florida?
JORDANA: Yes, my whole family except for my parents and sister still live there so I try to visit as much as possible. For what I can remember and being raised in Florida, Brazil is more of a favorite vacation spot. It's always fun to be with childhood friends and family, so I absolutely LOVE it there.
ACTOR POINT: Do you think you'd be working in entertainment as an Actress if you still lived in Brazil?
JORDANA: Most likely, yes. Life has shown me that when you're destined to do something, you'll end up doing exactly what you're meant to do in the end. My plan was to be a dentist until my senior year in college. I never knew that I was so comfortable in front of the camera and what I was really passionate about acting until I gave it a try.
ACTOR POINT: You have a great American accent, we can tell from the videos on your website that you've worked hard at it. Have you ever been asked to speak Portuguese or speak with a Brazilian accent at an audition?
JORDANA: Since I was so young when I learned the language, I don't have an accent at all which is probably why some people would never guess that I am Brazilian. I was once halfway through an interview and found out it was for a Brazilian show, so I ended up finishing it in Portuguese. Yes, I actually just auditioned for a role with a Brazilian accent and my mom helped me out with it since she has a very heavy accent. I video tapped her reading the script then mimicked how she sounded for my audition.
ACTOR POINT: Do you audition as an actress often or do you find that roles in Florida are difficult to come by?
JORDANA: I wish I could audition for a lot more acting roles than I do now. Since the films look for local talent when they shoot in Florida, the roles are not that big and it usually only takes a couple of days to shoot.
ACTOR POINT: What is your dream role? What character in what movie would you most like to play?
JORDANA: I would love a role in an action movie and push myself to do the stunts myself. Lara Croft, played by Angelina Jolie in "Tomb Raider" would be a fun one!
ACTOR POINT: We know that in this industry you have to start with small roles sometimes but you have a huge movie coming out with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Called Pain & Gain. Can you tell us about your experiences working on that set?
JORDANA: Working on that set was like a dream come true. Booking a scene with Mark Wahlberg and having Michael Bay as a director was such an unbelievable experience. Everyone was so amazing and such a pleasure to work with. Can't wait to watch it!
ACTOR POINT: Were you allowed to take any pictures on set or when you wrapped? Are there any pics you'd like to share with your fans?
JORDANA: Pictures with actors really are not allowed on set, but I do have one of myself right before I shot my scene for continuity reasons. Of course I'll share it!
ACTOR POINT: You play a character by the name of Lindsay Elmer on a highly anticipated TV project titled "Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives" from Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Warner Brothers Television. The cast includes Jessy L. Martin and Nicole Ari Parker. Can you tell us about working on that. It sounds very exciting!
JORDANA: I actually self-tapped that audition because I was recommended by the director. After sending my tape to New York and being approved by Jerry and the studios, I booked it and flew up to NYC to shoot. The cast and crew were absolutely incredible to work with and Mark Pellington is such a genius when it comes to directing. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
ACTOR POINT: What are your plans for 2013? Are you working on anything else right now?
JORDANA: My ultimate plan is to push myself to become the best that I can be as an actress. It has been 2 years since my first audition in this industry so I still have a lot to learn. I am diving into this career and not limiting myself to anything.
ACTOR POINT: What are you most passionate about outside of entertainment? What inspires you?
JORDANA: I received a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Florida Atlantic University, so I still have a passion for Cosmetic Dentistry, which was my original plan. I am really inspired by dedication and seeing others overcome obstacles because I believe that everything is possible.
ACTOR POINT: Is there anything you want to say to your friends, family or fans?
JORDANA: I love all of the support that I get from everyone. I hope that I exceed all of my expectations and I wouldn't have been the person that I am today without the special people in my life. I love you all!! Thank you!!
ACTOR POINT: Thank you Jordana! We look forward to seeing you on the big Screen come April 26th on Pain & Gain.
