Question: I have a two and a half year old daughter who is extremely talented, and I am not just saying that because I am a proud parent. I would like to get her started in some sort of acting, but I don't have a clue where to begin. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated! --Sarah

Answer:

The first thing I would suggest is to research acting schools/ classes/ teachers/ coaches who are in your area that specialize in such young children. Perhaps research some agencies that specialize in children commercials (that might be a good start for her). You can also keep an eye out for community theater casting calls (which is a great place for an actor of any age to begin).

The one point I need to stress is (as tempting as it may be or sound at the time) NEVER pay any agency or management company ANY money up front for ANY reason. This is never they way a legitimate company works. Legit agencies, governed by the union, are only allowed to accept 10% of the actor's salary. In your search, you will most likely come across companies claiming to be able to get your daughter work after you pay them a few hundred dollars to be "included in their book," "getting pictures from their photographer," or "taking classes from them."
